DoTM bans use of Pathao and Tootle



KATHMANDU: The Department of Transport Management under the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport has banned the use of private vehicles for public transport.

With this decision, Pathao and Tootle, which are currently operating in Kathmandu Valley to ferry people, have been affected.

The Department has warned of stern action against those violating the ban.

The Department issued a notice a day after taxi drivers in Kathmandu staged a sit-in at the Department of Transport Management premises on Tuesday demanding the ban on the use of private vehicles for public transport.

According to Section 8 of the Motor Vehicles and Transportation Management Act (1993), private vehicles shall not be used for public transport.

Likewise, according to Section 12, vehicles registered for one purpose shall not be used for other purposes.
