770 youths enter final selection for British Gurkha Army and Singapore Police

KATHMANDU: A total of 770 Nepali youths have entered the final stage of selection for the British Gurkha Army and Singapore Police.

The candidates are from 56 districts of Nepal including Manag, Mustang, Dolpa, Siraha, Dhanusha, according to the website of the British Army headquarters.

This year, the British government has given opportunities to those candidates who had been disqualified from the regional and final selections last year, citing COVID-19 pandemic.

The selection process has been delayed by one month this year. The selection for candidates for Singapore Police will start from January 23 and British Gurkha Army from February 2. Earlier, the selection would be held in January.

The final selection will take place in Pokhara. The half of the finalists has been selected from eastern region while the remaining half from the western region.

A total of 210 candidates have been called for the final stage of selection for Singapore Police.  Of them, 140 will get selected.

Similarly, 560 candidates – 280 each from eastern and western region – have been called for British Gurkha Army for the final stage of selection. Of them, 340 will make it to the final.

This number is less this year compared to the previous year. Last year, a total of 432 Nepali youths had been selected for British Gurkha Army and 220 for Singapore Police.
