Death toll reaches 20 in Myagdi landslide



MYAGDI: The dead bodies of 20 people who went disappeared in the landslide at Malika, Dhawalagiri and Raghuganga rural municipalities on Friday have been recovered.

A search and rescue team comprising Nepal Police, Nepal Army, Armed Police Force, people’s representatives and locals found the dead bodies buried in the debris of landslide.

According to the District Police Office, the dead bodies of 11 persons from Dhawalagiri-6, Marang, eight from Malika-7, Bima and one from Raghiganga-6, Tadakhani have been so far recovered.

Among the deceased recovered are Prakash KC, 18, of Dhawalagiri-6, Kalleni, Sukana Lamgade Ashish Damgade,
Ayush Lamgade, Ayusha Lamgade, Reshma Sunar, Man Bahadur Shrepali, Kamala Shreepali, Surakshya Srepali and Suraj Shreepali of Ramche.

Earlier, the lifeless body of Tul Bahadur KC, 62, of Thulogaun, Marang was found buried in the landslide on Friday.

Likewise, the dead bodies of Bishnu Sharma, Ichha KC, Gaudevi Nepali, Bishesh Nepali, Beer Bahadur Nepali, her three-month son, Bishnu Nepali and Sandeep Nepali of Bima were recovered.

Police informed that Naliman Chhantyal, 50, of Raghuganga-6, Thadakhani died after he was swept away by a local stream. Likewise, Dhan Bahadur Jugjali, 40, Ritu Kumari Jugjali, 33, Karishma Jugjali, 10, Kanchan Jugjali, 8, Arjun Jugjali, 5, Gaushara Jugjali, 55, Deema Jugjali, 21, Deepti Jugjali, 3, and one-year-old Deewan Jugjali went disappeared in the landslide occurred at Reekh of Marang.

The search for Janima KC,51, and Sabin Pun, 16, of Kalleni is underway. The status of Geeta Roka, 40, of Malika-6 who went missing in the Dukhu rivulet is still unknown. A team of security personnel has reached the incident site for the search and rescue of the disappeared on Saturday morning.

Two landslide-injured people from Marang and one from Bima were rescued through helicopter of Prabhu Air on the coordination of Om Kumari Shanti Trust and GC Group. Manjeeta Nepali, 22, and Safal Shreepali, 7, were referred to Manipal Teaching Hospital. Purna Pariyar, 40, of Bim is receiving treatment at Beni Hospital.

Two each injured of Takam, Kalleni and Ramche are yet to be provided with treatment. RSS
