Rainfall hits rescue operation in Bahrabise landslide, one rescued alive



SINDHUPALCHOK: The rescue operation in landslide-hit Jambu of Bahrabishe Municipality-5 in the district is facing difficulty due to continuous rainfall.

The authority has continued search for missing 20 people in the landslide that occurred on Wednesday but facing hardship as the road to reach the affected site is also blocked and damaged by the landslides and floods.

According to Chief District Officer Umesh Kumar Dhakal, a 25-member rescue team coming from Kathmandu was in the field but facing obstacles due to landslides.

A total of 52 houses in the area are badly affected and 30 families shifted to safer zones in coordination with local levels. He added that the tents, mattress, utensils and other essential materials were sent to the affected families.

Meanwhile, a 40-year-old Nanche Magar who was missing in the disaster has been rescued alive, said DSP Madhav Parasd Kafle.

Police added that the number of missing in the district has reached 21. Likewise, efforts were on to resume Jure road section.

According to Road Division Office engineer Bijay Kumar Mahato, the road section would be resumed by this evening as works were on to divert the road on 150 meters.

The floods swept away the bridges at Bulkote and Khadakhola of Bahrabise and the Road Division Office has initiated works to establish makeshift bridges.
