Frustration in Nepali youths could lead to vacant political system: Gagan Thapa

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) youth leader Gagan Thapa has said that frustration in Nepali youths witnessing activities of political parties and their leader and cadres can lead to a vacant political system.

Speaking on “Democracy and aspiration of youth in Nepal’, the sixth episode of Consolidating Democracy, leader Thapa said that youth might draw a strong conclusion that neither past system worked nor contemporary is working or future system will work which may lead to the vacant political system.

He reminded that a similar situation was experienced in 2059 BS when all the youth were frustrated with parties.

“There were all internal conflicts among the party leading to a split of both democratic and Communist parties. With ongoing Maoist rebellion and take over by King Gyanendra who blame the failure of a multiparty system and took all the power but after experiencing two years of regime those youth who praised for “monarchy system” were urged to topple the system by coming into the street leading to second People’s Movement,’ he said.

He added that the constitution has different faults but it has lead to a platform for democracy.

“It’s not totally complete but reformation to it will help to move forward,” he said.
