Hari Sharan Khadka accused in 33-kg gold scam lands in police net



KATHMANDU: Hari Sharan Khadka who was on the run after being accused in the high-profile 33-kg gold scam has been arrested.

The Department of Immigration (DoI) arrested Khadka at the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) on Saturday upon his arrival from Dubai.

Khadga had been absconding after he was allegedly involved in the group led by Chudamani Upreti alias Gore who smuggled 33 kg gold from Dubai to Kathmandu three years ago.

Originally from Bethanchok rural municipality-4, Khadka had been hiding in Dubai.

Khadka was taken under control based on the red corner notice issued by the Interpol, according to an official at the DoI.

According to DoI sources,  Khadka, bearer of passport no. 10066594, had arrived in Kathmandu via a chartered flight.

Police investigation had concluded that a group of racketeers led by Gore had smuggled the 33 kg gold to Kathmandu from Dubai.

Gold trader Sanam Shakya of Urlabari, Morang had died due to the torture meted out to him by the racketeers after the gold disappeared in 2073 BS.
