Paid COVID-19 test now available

KATHMANDU: The government has established a provision for those interested to carry out a Corona Virus test through the PCR method by paying the necessary fee.

The test so far was free for those falling under the criteria set by the government. The paid testing at the public health laboratories will be available in all seven provinces.

The people who do not fall under the guidelines set by the government will be allowed to do the test, said the Ministry of Health and Population spokesperson Dr. Jageswar Gautam.

A July 8 ministerial decision led by Health Minister Bhanu Bhakta Dhakal decided to designate one laboratory each in every province for the paid testing facility. Accordingly, the Koshi hospital in Province no. 1, Narayan hospital in Province no. 2, Pokhara Institute of Health Sciences in Gandaki province, Lumbini hospital in Province no. 5, the provincial public health laboratory in Karnali province and the Dhangadi provincial public health laboratory in Sudur Paschim province have been designated for the purpose, Dr. Gautam said.

The fee for self-examination is set at Rs. 5,500. Now anyone can avail of the facility in the designated laboratories. Prior to this, the Ministry had established a provision for those going for foreign employment to carry out the COVID-19 test at Bir hospital, TU Teaching Hospital and Patan Hospital.
