Govt intensifies surveillance on Biplav activities following Miklajung murder

KATHMANDU: The government has intensified its surveillance on the activities of outlawed Nepal Communist Party led by Netra Bikram Chand following the inhumane murder incident that took place in Miklajung rural municipality.

Police are carrying out search operations in the areas where Biplav outfit cadres killed headmaster Rajendra Shrestha by slitting his throat in Miklajung rural municipality of Morang district recently.

According to Province Police Office, Biratnagar, a joint security team from Morang, Dhankuta and Ilam has been deployed in Miklajung village where the Bipalv cadres gruesomely murdered the headmaster.

Biplav outfit has accused Shrestha of working as an informant on the activities carried out by Biplav cadres in Miklajung village. Biplav cadres had intensified their activities in the area, of late.

The body of 54-year-old Shrestha, the headmaster of Saraswati Basic School based in Miklajung rural municipality of Morang, was found in Barkhe jungle, one kilometer away from his house, on Tuesday morning.

Shrestha’s body has been taken to BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences in Dharan for postmortem.

He had been abducted from his house in Barkhe village and was ruthlessly killed by slitting his neck on the bank of Ramite khola. His hands were tied to his back before slitting his neck, according to SP Santosh Khadka, chief of District Police Office, Morang.

Police have intensified their vigil and have been keeping their close tabs on the activities of Biplav cadres following the incident, said SP Kamal Thapa, the spokesperson of Province 1 Police Office.

Mechi-Khoshi bureau in-charge of Biplav outfit Pratap has claimed the responsibility for the incident on Tuesday night.
