KATHMANDU: The Bagmati Bridge at Tinkune in Kathmandu would be built in new technology and design for which a contract agreement is being inked in two weeks with the developer.

According to the Kathmandu Valley Road Expansion Project, the bridge would be constructed as per the design and build basis.

Likewise, arch and bridge technology would be employed to build the bridge.

Over Rs 211.3 million worth contract was awarded to the Pappu Construction in 2015 to build the 85-metre-long bridge and the construction of the bridge has been stalled for so long owing to various reasons.
Project Chief Guru Adhikari said, “The bridge would be built as per the earlier measurement. Not a slight chance would be made in terms of its length and width.”

Although the construction cost is estimated to be higher, it is relatively durable than bridges built in other style.
It is expected to be built within three years. The government had scrapped the contract agreement with the contractor last fiscal year following the delay and substandard work surrounding the bridge.

The Department of Roads had assessed the earlier contract. Among the four foundations built by the contractor company, only one was upto the mark. If there were any technical issues in the constructed structure, as per the new provisions, the contractor company should bear all the costs to demolish it and reconstruct the structure yet again in the right way.

The Parliamentary Committee for Development and Technology has expressed its concern over the delay surrounding the bridge and had instructed the Ministry for Physical Infrastructure and Transportation to correct the faults regarding construction of the bridge.
