KATHMANDU: The government has urged Dr. Govinda KC to postpone his hunger strike.
After the talks failed late Friday night, the government negotiating team issued a statement on Saturday requesting Dr. KC to call off the strike.
The statement has stated the current status of the demands raised by Dr. KC.
A self-assessment report has been submitted to the Medical Education Commission to conduct the MBBS program at Karnali Institute of Health Sciences, the statement said.
It has been stated that land acquisition and a master plan has been approved in Bardibas, Butwal, and Surkhet to establish government medical colleges in each province and environmental impact assessment is in the final stage of approval.
Similarly, it has been mentioned that work is being done in a planned manner by allocating an annual budget for conducting educational programs of different levels and subjects of medical education in government medical colleges and institutes.
A master plan has been passed to conduct MBBS and other programs at the Rapti Institute of Health Sciences, while a post-graduate level educational program has been started at the Pokhara Institute of Health Sciences, the statement further said.
Dr. KC, who is on the 27th day of his 19th fast-unto-death at the TUTH, started his hunger strike calling for the implementation of his past agreements reached with the government.
Campaigner for reforms in Nepal’s medical sector, Dr. KC has said he would not break his hunger strike this time until a reliable base is formed for the implementation of his past agreements.
