Nepali national critically injured after robbers shoot him in USA



TEXAS: A Nepali youth in the line of duty has been seriously injured after a group of robbers opened fire on him in Austin city of Texas, USA.

He was shot at a gas station and retail outlet while on duty on Wednesday night on October 7.

Umesh Neupane, who was working at the shop, was seriously injured in the attack.

According to reports, three black men barged into the shop at a gas station owned by an Indian businessman in downtown Austin and one of them took out a gun.

The robbers opened fire on Neupane, who raised both hands signalling his surrender after the robbers showed him a gun. The incident took place at around 11 pm. According to the local police, Neupane was shot at and robbed by the robbers.

Police have received information that the group of robbers who shot at a person and looted two other stores in Austin but the group has not been arrested so far. Neupane, 35, received a bullet in his abdomen and got his internal organs damaged.

Former president of the Ashtin Nepali Society and social worker Devraj Neupane informed that Neupane has been undergoing treatment in the ICU of a local hospital since midnight on Wednesday.

According to him, He has undergone abdomen surgery and efforts have been made to save the parts damaged by the bullet. One of his kidneys has been injured.

Neupane, who came to the US from Sarlahi, Nepal, has been living in Austin with his wife and one child.

Due to the Corona epidemic, rising unemployment and the upcoming festivals in the United States, the incidents of robberies have increased in some areas, including Austin, Texas, of late.
