Sample of 5,000 people collected for COVID-19 test in Kathmandu Valley

KATHMANDU: Epidemiology and Infectious Disease Control Division has collected samples from 5,000 people in Kathmandu Valley for PCR test of coronavirus infection.

The Division has started collecting the sample reaching different places like hospitals, banks, customs office, survey office, transport office, where there is crowd of people, from Thursday.

Division Director Dr Basudev Pandey shared that the samples are being collected to find out the condition of COVID-19 at the community level in Kathmandu Valley.

Senior Public Health Administrator at the Division, Mahendradhoj Adhikari, said that sample would be collected from 60-70 persons at an office for this purpose.

PCR test of patients undergoing treatment at ICU, cancer patients, patients undergoing dialysis treatment as well as health workers involved in their treatment would be carried out.

Similarly, sample would also be collected from employees of such offices as bank, customs office who are working at the frontline.

Adhikari shared that sample collection at such offices would be completed within five days.

The Division on Thursday had collected samples from employees at such offices in Kalanki, Banasthali, Chabahil and Bhaktapur.
