Test for coronavirus halted in Doti after shortage of test kits

DOTI: Test for coronavirus among a total of 2,444 persons returned home from India has stopped after the shortage of testing kits.

So far, the rapid diagnostic test has been conducted among 1,719 persons and PCR among 337 in the district.

District Public Health Office chief Ramesh Malashi informed that there was a shortage of testing kits, so tests among all returned home from India have not been possible.

The test stopped in the district since Thursday. Even the coronavirus suspected ones are waiting for their turn, said COVID-19 contact person, Surya Bista.

Bista said, “We’ve run short of testing kits. As the testing stopped, we demanded the kits. The Sudurpaschim State government had decided to test coronavirus via the PCR method in Baitadi and Doti.”

The health workers here also complained that they were still unaware of the health condition of those returned from India. Harka Bahadur Bohara from Phungsil Rural Municipality said, “Those returned from neighboring country have been roaming freely, but coronavirus test is not conducted.”
