KATHMANDU: The Union of Trekking Travels Rafting Workers Nepal (UNITRAV) has urged the tourism and airline entrepreneurs not to go for a layoff citing the unfavorable situation in the aftermath of fear of coronavirus outbreak.

UNITRAV, the largest trade union in the tourism industry, said its serious attention has been drawn regarding the decision of some companies to lay off workers to cope up with the situation in view of coronavirus infection risk.

It has also warned airlines and tourism companies not to implement the decision when they are facing challenges in meeting their everyday needs.

The Airlines Operators Association of Nepal, an umbrella organization of airline service providers, had on March 6, announced to go on a layoff to cope with situations created by the coronavirus fear.

UNITRAV said that the move will push workers to a crisis and deprive them of their bread.

It has also warned that the concerned companies will be liable for any consequences if their livelihood was challenged.
