Former treasurer of NC Prasain passes away



JHAPA: Former central treasurer of Nepali Congress and democracy fighter Rambabu Prasain passed away at Om Hospital in Kathmandu on Friday afternoon.

The 99-year-old Prasain died of coronavirus infection. He was admitted to the hospital for treatment after he experienced respiratory problems six days back, said NC Spokesperson Bishwoprakash Sharma.

Prasain was the District President of the Nepali Congress in Jhapa in 2044 BS and became the central treasurer of the party after the general convention in 2048 BS.

Born on Magh 15, 1978 BS, Prasain had involved in the struggle against the autocratic Panchayat system and was exiled to India. He is survived by a wife and three sons.

NC President Deuba expresses grief

Meanwhile, Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba has expressed deep grief over the demise of Rambabu Prasain (Khanuparude).

Issuing a condolence note, President Deuba said, “The death of the leader committed to social welfare saddened me.” He paid tribute to the dead one and extended condolences to the bereaved family members.

Prasain was the central treasurer of the party when saintly leader Krishna Prasad Bhattarai was the president.
