Monsoon floods sweep away dozen houses in Sindhupalchowk



KATHMANDU: A dozen houses have been swept away by landslides caused by incessant rains in Sindhupalchowk district.

Police said the floods have taken a heavy toll at Jambu, Khagdal bazaar along the Arniko Highway in Bahrabise municipality, said District Police Office, Sindhupalchowk.

Due to the road disruption, security personnel have also not been able to reach the incident site, Chief District Officer Umesh Kumar Dhakal said.

It is reported that 15 houses have been swept away in Bahrabise municipality and some locals have gone out of contact.

“It is yet to be estimated about the damaged incurred by the monsoon floods,” said Deputy Mayor Sushila Pakhrin of Bahrabise rural municipality.

“The road is inundated and the rescue work has been affected, “said Pakhrin, adding, “The water level of Bhotekoshi has reached the danger mark.”

Meanwhile, Speaker Agni Sapkota is leaving for Bahrabise to inspect the flood-hit area.

“Speaker Sapkota is leaving for the incident site in a helicopter to rescue the people,” informed Sapkota’s press aide Shreedhar Neupane.

As many as 15 houses have been inundated in Bahrabise municipality-3 due to floods and landslides and 18 people have gone missing.

Meanwhile, bodies of two people have been recovered. The exact loss incurred by the disaster is yet to be assessed. This is the constituency of Speaker Sapkota.
