Players fear their promised prizes will remain due

BIRATNAGAR: Claiming that the sport-persons fear their promised prizes and rewards might remain due till distant future, lawmakers of Province 1 have demanded the government to address the concern of the players.

Speaking at the Province Assembly at Biratnagar, Kusum Kumari Shrestha, a lawmaker of Province 1, has demanded the province government to provide the players the prize amount promised to the winners of 13th South Asian Games (SAG).

“It is sad that the winners of the 13th SAG have not got the promised amount till date,” Shrestha, the lawmaker of ruling Nepal Communist Party said speaking during zero hour in the province parliament. He dubbed this a discouraging move to the players.

She remarked that it is very humiliating to the winners that the prizes for the games played from December 1-December 10 are still not distributed for more than 6 months.

She demanded the Council of Minister of Province 1 that the prizes promised by the meeting of Council of Ministers on December 11 have to be provided at the earliest.

The Council of Ministers of Province 1 had promised to provide Rs 300 thousand, Rs 200 thousand, and Rs 100 thousand to the gold, silver and bronze medal winners of the 13th SAG from Province 1.

Some 88 players of Province 1 had bagged 49 medals including 10 gold, 10 silver and 29 bronze medals in the SAG.

Nepal had won 51 gold, 60 silver and 96 bronze medals in the event.
