Police begin investigation into MP Yadav’s abduction case

KATHMANDU: Police have begun an investigation into a complaint of abduction and hostage-taking against Nepal Communist Party (NCP) lawmakers Mahesh Basnet and Krishna Kumar Shrestha (Kishan Shrestha) and former Inspector General of Police Sarbendra Khanal.

Metropolitan Police Range, Kathmandu started the investigation into the complaint after the District Government Attorney’s Office, Kathmandu forwarded a complaint filed by Samajwadi Party lawmaker Dr. Surendra Yadav.

The investigation has been started after the attorney office sent the complaint, said Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Shyam Gyawali.

According to SSP Gyawali, a preliminary investigation has been started and detailed investigation will be carried out as per the need.

It should be noted that former IGP Khanal, leaders Basnet and Shrestha had brought Dr. Yadav from Janakpur to Kathmandu in what the party has dubbed as ‘abduction’.

On Monday, lawmaker Dr. Yadav had filed a petition at the attorney’s office alleging that he was abducted.
