KATHMANDU: Various locals festivals and jatras have been cancelled owing to the enforcement of the lockdown in the country.
The Temal Jatra of Boudha, Baluju 22 Dhara Mela and Jamacho Mela have been cancelled due to the lockdown.
Temal Jatra, the lightening of candle ceremony at the Boudha Stupa for the ancestor has been postponed due to the lockdown called by the government to curb with the spreading of the coronavirus, Dipendra Kumar Lama, Ward Chairman of Kathmandu Metro Politan city-6, said.
In the Jatra, every year, thousands of devotees used to throng the Stupa.
Similarly, Balaju 22 Dhara Mela, bathing fair to eradicate all evils, has also been postponed citing the lockdown.
Similarly, Jamacho Jatra was observed with the belief that Boudha would be meditating in the Jamacho Gumba.
To reach the Jamacho, one has to go through the Raniban. Having the dense forest, people have to cross the forest in a group, organizing committee chairman Chandraman Lama said. This festival is observed in 14 days of the new moon Chaitra.
