Minister Baskota decries tendency of misinterpretation of opinions

BHAKTAPUR: Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Gokul Baskota has refuted allegations against the government that the latter was causing a threat to freedom of the press.

Speaking at a program in Bhaktapur today, Minister Baskota said that he would immediately step down from his post and come to the street if the situation so arises under which press freedom was squeezed.

He said that media bias was dominating as the views intended for something were being presented differently in the media.

“The tendency of misinterpretation of opinions out of a biased mentality has been dominant,” he said, adding that he, too, as a journalist can realize aspirations of journalists.

Stating the government was not in favor of ‘poor journalism’, Minister Baskota called for bringing a golden era for journalism.

He also assured that the Media Council Bill would not be endorsed by neglecting the journalists’ rights and interests.
