Valley garbage to be dumped at Banchare Danda from 2nd week of Dec

KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Urban Development is making preparations to dispose the garbage of the Kathmandu Valley at the under-construction new Sanitary landfill site in Banchare Danda in Dhading district.

The garage of the capital will be dumped at the new landfill site from the first week of the Nepali month Poush, according to the ministry.

Briefly halted the coronavirus pandemic, the construction of the landfill site has now gained momentum, said Krishna Prasad Dawadi, the information officer for the ministry.

“The construction of the landfill site has reached a final stage,” said Dawadi, adding, “The soil is being leveled now.”

Located at the border between Dhading and Nuwakot districts, the sanitary landfill site will have a 15-meter-high dam equipped with other facilities for dumping garbage, according to the ministry.

Lumbini Koshi and Neupane JV had signed a contract with the government on May 5, 2019 to build the Sanitary landfill site within one year.

The Kathmandu Valley produces around 200 trucks of garbage on a daily basis.
