Construction of sports infrastructure is government’s priority: Sports Minister

KASKI: Minister for Youth and Sports Jagat Bahadur Bishwokarma has said construction of sports infrastructures has gained pace throughout the country after the formation of the incumbent government.

The Sports Minister said this while inaugurating a volleyball court at Bamdi of Pokhara Metropolitan City-23 today.

He made it clear that the government’s priority was focused on building sports facilities as the development of sports was impossible without infrastructure construction.

“Construction of sports infrastructure would help promote sports activities in the rural areas which will contribute to produce new players. So, the present government has paid its special attention to the construction of sports infrastructures,” the Sports Minister added.

On the occasion, Minister Bishwokarma announced that a local-level sports stadium would be constructed at all the local levels with the implementation since last year of the ‘one local level, one sports village’ program.

Gandaki Province Assembly member Rajiv Pahari hoped sports activities would flourish with the initiation of the construction of road at Bamdi, apart from the volleyball court.

Member of the national Sports Council, Rajesh Kumar Gurung complained that the payment for the sports infrastructures constructed for the 13th South Asian Games held last year was yet to be made and this has created a problem.

The volleyball court was constructed at a cost of five million rupees provided by the National Sports Council last year. Office chief of the District Sports Development Committee, Prakash Baral informed that 16 various sports grounds had been constructed and upgraded in the district last year.
