Nepal, Cyprus Speakers exchange greetings

KATHMANDU: Speaker of the House of Representatives Agni Prasad Sapkota has exchanged greetings to Speaker of Cyprus Demetris Syllouris on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.

During a telephone conversation, Speaker Sapkota congratulated his Cypriot counterpart on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the countries and said that the two countries have good relations based on mutual trust.

He noted that Cyprus has a significant presence on the world map as a member of the European Union.

Speaker Sapkota said that more than 10,000 Nepali workers have already arrived in Cyprus.

He thanked Cyprus for creating opportunities for Nepali students to study and for providing assistance and protection to Nepalis living in Cyprus during the COVID-19, and expressed confidence that scholarships would be provided to the students.

During the dialogue, Speaker Sapkota proposed the formation of a Parliamentary Friendship Group between the Federal Parliament of Nepal and the Parliament of Cyprus.

Speaker Sapkota expressed confidence that Speaker Syllouris would visit Nepal soon.

During the talks, Speaker of the House of Representatives of Cyprus, Syllouris, said that the two countries have good relations and recalled that his scheduled visit to Nepal for the Everest Dialogue had been postponed due to COVID-19.

He informed that more than 10,000 Nepalis are in Cyprus for work and study and expressed commitment to take initiative to take forward the process of taking workers on the basis of coordination between the governments after receiving a formal letter from Nepal.

Speaker Syllouris said that he would take the proposal of forming a parliamentary friendship group positively and start the process of forming a parliamentary group.
