KATHMANDU: Nepal Communist Party Spokesperson Narayan Kaji Shrestha has urged the government to address the demands of senior orthopedic surgeon Dr Govinda KC at the earliest.

Posting a message on social networking sites on Thursday, Shrestha said, “We may have differences on various issues with KC. People might think that this is not the right time to stage a hunger strike when the country is putting its all efforts to curb coronavirus pandemic. But what is true is that significant changes have taken place in the medical education sector thanks to the strikes staged by Dr KC.”

Meanwhile, medical doctors have also staged demonstrations across the country to express solidarity with KC who has been on a fast-unto-death since the last 25 days.

The doctors led by Nepal Medical Association (NAM) halted all the services except emergency and COVID-19 wards from 9 am to 11 am on Thursday across the country as part of demonstration.

Similarly, resident doctors of TU Teaching Hospital have also started staging a relay hunger strike by wearing black armbands.

The government on Wednesday formed a panel to hold negotiation with agitating Dr KC following protests from all quarters.

Currently, talks is underway between the government and the representatives of Dr KC at the Ministry of Education.

Crusader of the medical education sector in Nepal, Dr KC’s 19th fast-unto-death has entered the 25th day today.
