COVID-19 cases found in 136 places in Kathmandu Valley

KATHMANDU: As many as 124 including seven members of a family were infected with coronavirus in the Kathmandu Valley in a single day.

According to the Epidemiology and Disease Control Division (EDCD), Kathmandu, this was the highest single day infection cases in the capital.

Senior Public Health Officer Uttam Kumar Koirala said over 60 percent among those infected have come from outside the Valley, mainly from Province 2.

Only 25 infected have been sent to isolation of the hospitals due to the lack of beds while 68 are in home isolation. Some are out of contact and are outside the Valley.

With this, the number of people infected with the virus has reached 982 in the Kathmandu Valley as of Friday, according to the Ministry of Health and Population.

Among them, 766 are in Kathmandu, 82 in Bhaktapur and 134 are in Lalitpur. Currently, 646 people infected with COVID-19 are undergoing treatment at various hospitals in the capital.

The Kathmandu Valley is turning into a hotbed of COVID-19 as the infection cases have been found in as many as 136 different places in the capital in the last two weeks.

More than five cases each have been found in 24 places. As many as 65 security personnel have been infected at Nepal Police Headquarters at Naxal.

Similarly, there are 10 cases each in Samakhusi, Bagbazaar and Kalimati and nine cases have been reported in Sanepa, according to EDCD.
