KATHMANDU: The major opposition party Nepali Congress (NC) has demanded with the government for the earliest address of the demands of the youth staging sit-in for long.

A youth associated with the ‘Enough is Enough’ campaign has been staging fast-unto-death pressing for effective prevention of COVID-19 and treatment of the infected ones.

In a press statement issued by NC Spokesperson Bishwa Prakash Sharma here Friday, NC blamed the government for lack of seriousness for holding dialogue and forging agreement although the youths were protesting for 20 days.

Calling for saving the protesting youths’ lives by acknowledging their sentiments, NC demanded with the government to adopt a new strategy to cope up with the increasing challenges related to COVID-19.

According to the statement, NC has underscored effective management of crisis with adequate medical appliances, action against those involved in irregularities surrounding the procurement of medical goods, expansion of the scope of PCR test in community, management of the quarantines as per the WHO criteria, free evacuation of the Nepalis stranded abroad and strict surveillance over the people entering the country from entry points among others.

The major opposition also blamed that the government did not possess the capability for ensuring good governance. It drew the government’s attention to implement the agreements made with the youths in their earlier sit-in protest.
