NEW DELHI: Citing the disturbance caused by lockdown imposed to curb coronavirus pandemic, Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) of India has omitted the chapters related to democratic rights, food security, federalism, citizenship, secularism along with the chapters related to Nepal and other neighbors.
CBSE made an announcement on Tuesday to curtail the syllabus so as to make it easy to be covered in the regular routine disturbed by coronavirus pandemic.
“As the coronavirus pandemic disturbed the regular academic session, there were the speculations that the course coverage would be difficult unless it is shortened,” Dhiraj Yadav, a teacher at a secondary school in Delhi, said, “the government has curtailed the courses that can be covered in other academic session from this one.”
He hoped that the curricula would be balanced by merging some topics and shifting some for the next session.
CBSE made the declaration of curtailing the syllabus by one third for the academic session 2020-21 citing the disturbance caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
The Board has revised the curricula of Economics and Political Science from grade 9-12.
As per the latest change, Federalism, Citizenship, Nationalism and Secularism are removed from the Political Science of Grade 11.
Two chapters have been removed from the Local Government.
Interestingly, the removal of chapters related to neighbors including Nepal, Pakistan, Bangaladesh from the syllabus has coincided with the India’s relationship with most its neighbors getting sour.
