KATHMANDU: Brazil’s President Jair Bolsonaro has tested positive for coronavirus.

President Bolsonaro underwent the test, his fourth, on Monday after developing symptoms, including a high temperature.

He has repeatedly played down risks of what he has called the “little flu”, saying he would not be seriously affected. He has opposed lockdowns, which he says hurt the economy.

Brazil has the second-highest number of Covid-19 cases and deaths in the world, after the US.

As many as 1,312 people have died from coronavirus in the last 24 hours in Brazil, taking the total number of deaths to 66,868 as of Wednesday morning.

Similarly, with 48,584 new cases, the number of coronavirus cases has reached 1,674,655 in the country so far.

Meanwhile, 1,072,229 have recovered from the deadly virus.
