COVID-19 test delays last rites of man

DOTI: Last rites of a 19-year-old man of KI Singh rural municipality-3 in the district who died at a quarantine facility on Sunday morning are yet to take place due to delay in obtaining PCR report of the deceased.

Swabs of the man and other nine people who are staying at the quarantine facility have been sent to Dhangadhi-based Seti Zonal Hospital on Saturday evening, but reports are yet to come.

There is only one PCR machine in Kailali and the pressure of testing a large number of swabs has delayed the reports of them, said Chief of the district health office, Ramesh Malasi.

“Reports may come until today evening,” he said. However, Dr Gunaraj Awasti, director of the Sudurpaschim Regional Health Directorate, Dipayal asked the family and relatives of the deceased to conduct last rites of the man.

“It may take time to obtain the reports of the deceased. A few people can take part in the funeral process. Death attendants should stay separately until their swab report comes,” he said.

The family of the deceased demands the reports soon, reasoning that there is a delay in performing the last rites of the man. Nepal Army is ready for last rites of the man, but reports have delayed, said the rural municipality chair Lokendra Shahi.

The deceased was suffering from heart problems, said health coordinator of the rural municipality, Tilak Bahadur Bohara. The man stayed at the quarantine facility right after he returned home from New Delhi on June 2. RSS
