Writ petition at SC seeking financial support for media houses



KATHMANDU: A writ petition has been filed at the Supreme Court (SC) demanding special programs to address the woes faced by media houses and general people due to lockdown in the country.

The writ petition has been field at the SC seeking an interim order on government to bring special packages to address the problems faced by the media houses, farmers and students during the lockdown.

Advocates Ananta Raj Luitel and Pratibha Upreti jointly filed the writ petition seeking a special package including the government advertisements for the media houses, print and online media badly hit by lockdown.

The preliminary hearing has been scheduled for Tuesday.

Petitioners in the writ petition have demanded that the government start online-based education to ensure the students’ right to education, subsidized loan to the foreign returnees to operate small-scale industries and agro-businesses.

Prime Minister and the Council of Ministers, Finance Ministry and National Planning Commission have been mentioned as defendants in the writ petition.
