India lifts restrictions on drug exports amid COVID-19 pandemic

NEW DELHI: India has lifted restrictions on the export of 24 pharmaceutical medicines and ingredients made from them.

India, which is the world’s main supplier of generic drugs, had imposed the restrictions in March as the coronavirus outbreak obstructed the global supply chains.

For instance, Paracetamol and its formulations were not included in the list of drugs freed up for export, Indian media reports have said.

The decision, meanwhile, followed a telephone conversation between Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump.

India had restricted exports of some 26 ingredients and medicines on March 3. (With inputs from Agencies)
