KATHMANDU: Nepali badminton athlete Prince Dahal has lost in the pre-quarterfinal of the Yonex German Junior Badminton series.

The series is taking place in Berlin, German.

In the pre-quarterfinals in the men’s U-19 category, Prince lost to Yanis Gaudin of France by one set against two. Prince had won the first set 21-18 but lost the remaining two at the same score of 12-21, according to his manager Kamlesh Niroula. He had entered the last 16 after winning three consecutive matches.

In course of the road to the quarter-final, Prince defeated Kiyan of Germany 2-1, Leni of Australia 2-0 and Bennet of Germany 2-0. Last week, Prince had failed to cross the pre-quarter-final stage in the Yonex Dutch Junior International Series held in the Netherlands.

It may be noted the Prince remains in the 10th position in the World Rankings released by the World Badminton Association last week. This is the biggest success so far by any badminton player in Nepal. A resident of Khalanga in Darchula, Prince is a Grade 9 student at Danfe Boarding School in Jawlakhel, Lalitpur.
