American citizen ‘kidnapped’ by Taliban in Afghanistan



KABUL: A US citizen has been kidnapped in Afghanistan by a Taliban-affiliated faction, international media reports have said.

Authorities and the police are working to rescue Mark R. Frerichs, 57, of Lombard, Illinois.

U.S. officials say he was kidnapped by the Haqqani network.

A former US Navy diver, Frerichs was working as Managing Director for International Logistical Support, a US government contractor that works in conflict areas.

Reports said Frerichs was abducted last week in Khost province in Afghanistan.
