JUMLA: Inmates at the District Prison in Jumla are deprived of basic health facilities due to the absence of health workers for over the past three months.
The prison has a post for an auxiliary health worker (AHW) but has been lying vacant since the transfer of (the then) AHW Shukraraj Shahi to the Hima rural municipality three months ago, according to the prison administration.
Jailor Gaya Prasad Pandey said they are unable to provide basic health facilities to the jailbirds at the moment.
The prison administration is compelled to take an inmate to the Karnali Academy of Health Sciences (KAHS).
Common cold, fever, headache and joint pains are common health issues among prisoners.
The transfer of previous health worker has not yet been replaced.
Moreover, water and electricity supply in jail is irregular.
According to an inmate Khamba Rawat, they have to line up for hours to fetch water.
Meanwhile, the irregular power supply has increased a security threat, chief jailor Pandey said.
