Birds census begins at Nepal’s national parks, protected areas

CHITWAN: A census of birds at all national parks, protected areas and reserves in the country has begun.

The census was said to begin from Saturday, however, it began from Monday due to unfavorable weather conditions.

Former chairperson of World Education Society, Chitwan, Basu DC, informed that the counting of birds in 65 places, including the wetlands of the Chitwan National Park, has begun simultaneously by 22 different teams.

The census of birds in Nepal is carried out from January 4-19 every year.

DC said that the census of water birds at Narayani river bank, Rapti river bank and Chitwan National Park would be conducted by separate teams

According to him, the bird census has begun from Kumroj community forest of the Chitwan National Park.

Cameras, binoculars, and telescopes will be used in course of carrying out the census.
