Human rights situation has not improved: NHRC



KATHMANDU: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) presented its annual report to President Bidya Devi Bhandari today.

The report was presented as per Article 294 (1) of the Constitution.

The report includes the complaints, investigation details, recommendations to the government to promote, protect and fulfill human rights.

The report further states that the situation of human rights had not improved as per expectation.
In the report, the NHRC has urged the government and bodies concerned to be serious regarding the protection of human rights.

The commission Secretary Beda Bhattarai shared that fundamental rights guaranteed in the constitution were yet to be ensured in practice due to some constraints.

According to the report, labor exploitation at home and abroad, caste-based discrimination, poor consumers’ rights, violence against children, and women were the issues to be addressed. The report mentions that 132 complaints of human rights violations were registered during the period.

Similarly, investigations on 795 cases were completed and monitoring was carried out 128 times during the review period.
