KATHMANDU: Minister for Foreign Affairs Pradeep Kumar Gyawali has observed that the reconstruction process of the historical heritage-Kastamandap-at Basantapur was encouraging.

In an onsite visit to this quake-damaged wooden pavilion on Friday, Minister Gyawali said that the reconstruction of the Kastamandap had proven that the local community’s participation was inevitable in the reconstruction of the heritages.

Minister Gyawali extended his gratitude to the Reconstruction Committee for forwarding the reconstruction work of this heritage believed to be built in the Lichhavi period in the 7th century.

Similarly, Minister for Urban Development Krishna Gopal Shrestha expressed his satisfaction over the reconstruction work in such a manner to complete it within the stipulated time.

Likewise, Kastamandap Reconstruction Committee President Rajesh Shakya shared that 75 per cent of the reconstruction work of the Kasthamandap was over. It is scheduled to be inaugurated on April 25 next year, making 6th anniversary of the Gorkha Earthquake.

Altogether 35 artisans and construction workers are regularly working for the reconstruction of this heritage in its original form. It is also believed that three-storeyed-Kastamandap was built from the timber of a single ‘Saal’ tree.
