Two health workers held in connection with death of new mother



JANAKPUR: Two health workers at Ram Janaki Hospital in Janakpur Municipality-6 in Dhanusha district have been arrested in connection with the death of a new mother.

Police nabbed two health workers after a 23-year-old Gangadevi Mahato from Gaushala Municipality died Friday morning following the birth of a baby girl. Sheer negligence of medical persons was blamed for the death.

Gangadevi was admitted to the hospital on Thursday evening after she experienced labor pain. She needed O positive blood for the surgery on Thursday night itself. But, the Blood Bank at Janakpur provided her family person blood of B+ group instead of O+.

The health workers reportedly had injected the blood to Gangadevi with a syringe without properly examining it which led her to death, according to the family of the deceased.

The family and relatives of the deceased have accused the Red Cross’ blood bank and the hospital of gross negligence. They demanded stern action and due compensation.

The District Police Office, Dhanusha is looking into the case, police said.
