Facebook, Google, Twitter ‘pausing’ Hong Kong police help

KATHMANDU: Major social networking sites Facebook, WhatsApp, Twitter, Google and Telegram have said they are “pausing” co-operation with requests for user information from the Hong Kong police.

Several countries have criticized China for imposing a new security law saying that it threatens the territory’s long-standing autonomy, according to BBC.

The announcements are likely to pile pressure on Apple to do likewise.

Apple’s services are still intact even though the others’ services are blocked in mainland China.

However, Facebook, Google and Twitter do generate revenue from selling advertising to Chinese clients.
