KATHMANDU: The newly-formed Janata Samjbadi Party (JSP) has settled its ongoing struggle for the party leadership by making the provision for three senior leaders as party chairpersons.

As per Sunday’s agreement, among the party leaders, JSP will have a five-member secretariat, including three chairpersons in it.

According to sources, Mahantha Thakur, Upendra Yadav and Dr. Baburam Bhattarai will be the trio executing the role of the party’s chairpersons.

In addition to the three chairpersons, senior leaders Rajendra Mahato and Ashok Rai will be in the party secretariat.

JSP leaders will visit the Election Commission for its formal registration soon.

According to JSP leader Ganga Narayan Shrestha, the party leaders will go to the Election Commission for the formal registration of their party.

Samjbadi Party and Rastriya Janata Party had declared unification on April 22 to form a new party with the name Janata Samjbadi Party.

The provisions in the Act relating to the Political Party seek that the parties which go for unification or merger should apply to Election Commission within 45 days after such agreement.

The unifying parties should submit a copy of the agreement among many other documents to the Commission.

The agreement made to unite Samajbadi Party and Rastriya Janata Party passed 45 days on Saturday, however, as the 45th day turned out to be a holiday, the time for submitting the details got extended by one day, i.e. till Sunday.

After investigating the matter including the verification of the details, the Election Commission provides the party a certificate.
