NAC plane flies to Australia carrying 289 Aussies

KATHMANDU: A Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC) plane left Kathmandu for Australia on Wednesday carrying 289 Australian citizens.

The wide-body plane was hired for a chartered flight by the Australian Embassy in Kathmandu.

The flight included 127 Australian citizens, 149 Australian permanent residents and 5 New Zealand nationals.

While 118 passengers were transported from locations outside Kathmandu, including 40 from Butwal and Chitwan, 18 were from Jhapa and 18 from Pokhara, the Embassy said.

The aircraft is said to land in Sydney via Malaysia and return to the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) on Thursday evening.

This is the second NAC chartered flight to Australia. Earlier on April 1, it had carried Australians to Brisbane.

Meanwhile, the return flight will carry 30,000 COVID-19 test kits, on-boarded at Kuala Lumpur, to support Nepal’s efforts to contain the coronavirus, according to the Australian Embassy.
