103 vehicles entering Kathmandu Valley returned

KATHMANDU: As many as 103 vehicles entering the Kathmandu Valley without vehicle permit during the nationwide lockdown were returned from the entry point the other day.

Vehicles carrying essential supplies, however, were allowed the entry.

The government has enforced a nationwide lockdown since March 24 to contain the outbreak of coronavirus.

All human and vehicular movements have come to a halt except for those providing essential supplies and services.

Meanwhile, Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC)’s Deputy Mayor Hari Prabha Khadgi on Wednesday went to Nagdhunga to take stock of the people and vehicles entering the Kathmandu Valley.

DSP Ghanashyam Shrestha, Chief of the Metropolitan Police Circle, Thankot, stated that 37 such vehicles were returned on Monday and 103 vehicles on Tuesday.

Vehicle permit passes have been issued by respective District Administration Offices in special cases.

However, misuse of the passes has been reported during the lockdown.

Entry points to Kathmandu have been tightened to prevent entries and exit during health crisis.

Vehicles supplying vegetables and food items, however, have been allowed to enter Kathmandu without any obstruction.

Some 500 vehicles carrying supplies enter Kathmandu via Nagdhunga on a daily basis, according to DSP Shrestha.

Meanwhile, Deputy Mayor Khadgi also distributed masks to drivers driving without using protective gears.
