KATHMANDU: As many as 61,000 Nepalis have returned home from various countries abroad in the last three weeks after the coronavirus spread across the world.
According to the details collected by the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration from all 753 local levels, a total of 61,000 Nepali migrants arrived in Nepal via both land and air since March 17 to April 5.
Four hundred and eighty five among those returnees arrived home via air. On March 17, 185 landed at the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) on a flight of Qatar Airways, 170 on Air Arabia and 130 via Vistara Air of India on March 18.
The Ministry has said 117 foreign country-returnees are self-isolating in Kathmandu. They are from Dubai, France, Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Australia.
A first coronavirus infection case was detected in Nepal on January 23. The next case was found on March 23. The number of COVID-19 cases has reached nine in Nepal so far. One among them has returned home after treatment.
