KATHMANDU: Lawmaker of the main opposition Nepali Congress, Gagan Thapa has emphasized prevention rather than panicking over the coronavirus spread.

Speaking during today’s session of the House of Representatives, Thapa said, “Prevent, not panic.”

Presenting a proposal of public importance on COVID-19 at the parliament, he said the government needs to plan for contingencies to deal with the virus while urging all three governments, communities and the people to take every precaution towards that end.

Lawmaker Thapa urged the government to put additional effort to ensure that the virus does not spread while emphasizing the need for disseminating information through a single channel to avoid confusion.

He presented the proposal to inform the House of measures taken so far to prevent the infection risk and preparedness.

The proposal was backed by lawmakers Dibyamani Rajbhandari, Sanjay Kumar Gautam, Rajendra Kumar KC, and Dr Narayan Khadka.

Thapa’s proposal says Nepal remained in the 15th position in terms of the virus risk infection.

He said that the prevention measures were not adequate and the government forming a high-level coordination committee towards that end deserved admiration.

The proposal also seeks the dissemination of correct information about the virus among the masses.
