KATHMANDU: Driver of public vehicles are mandatorily required to wear shoes from now onwards.

A meeting of traffic police officials and transport entrepreneurs and unions on Monday agreed that drivers must wear shoes, not slippers, as driving with slippers has been seen as one of the reasons for accidents.

SSP Bim Prasad Dhakal said that a driver wearing slippers will not be able to press the brakes during emergencies due to sweat.

He also said that they have formed an eight-member committee with representatives from the traffic police and unions to implement the decision.
