Province-5 named Lumbini Province with Dang its capital

KATHMANDU: The Provincial Assembly of Province 5 on Tuesday, through a two-third majority, decided to name the province as Lumbini and Dang as its capital.

A total of 69 votes were cast in favor of Dang as the permanent Capital out of total 82 votes cast, announced Province Assembly Speaker.

Likewise, a total of 79 votes were cast in favor of the proposal naming the province as Lumbini Province.

The main opposition party Nepali Congress (NC) had objected to the decision to shift the capital.

Province 5 Assembly Hall on Monday had witnessed a high voltage drama after the provincial government tabled a proposal over the province name and permanent capital.

While the province Minister Kul Prasad KC was going to table the government’s proposal in the rostrum of the assembly, NC lawmakers had suddenly started vandalizing chairs. They had smashed not only the chairs but also the mic.
