Nepalgunj, Karnali province sealed off to stem Coronavirus spread

KATHMANDU:  Nepalgunj of Banke district has been sealed off following a surge in the number of COVID-19 cases.

District Administration Office, Banke has sealed off the area barring people from entering all the wards of Nepalgunj Sub-metropolis effective from 11 am on Tuesday to midnight on Thursday, said Assistant Chief District Officer Dirgharaj Upadhyaya.

No one will be allowed to come out of their houses during the period.

Assistant Chief District Officer Upadhyaya informed that the security personnel would immediately arrest any person who comes out of their houses and take action as per the law.

So far, 23 people have been infected with coronavirus in Nepalgunj.

Meanwhile, Karnali Province has been completely sealed off after the coronavirus infection was seen in the neighboring provinces.

All the checkpoints in the province have been sealed after the coronavirus infection was seen in Province-5 and Far-West Province.

The province government has decided to close all the entry points to the province.

Earlier, the infection was also in the neighboring Far-West Province and there has been panic in Karnali after the infection was seen in Nepalgunj of Province 5 recently.

All the checkpoints in Karnali have been closed to prevent infection from outside.

A meeting of the Karnali Province Disaster Management Council on Monday decided to completely seal off all the entry points in the province for one week. With this decision, all the checkpoints entering Karnali have been closed.

Similarly, the import of construction materials and food grains has also been banned.

Social Development Minister Dal Rawal said, “Karnali is still safe from infection, but the infection has increased in neighboring states. We have decided to completely seal off Karnali to prevent infection from entering. Now the movement of people and goods will be completely stopped.”
