14 students killed, 39 injured in stampede in Kenya



KENYA: At least 14 children died and dozens injured in a stampede at a primary school in Kenya.

The students, mostly aged between 10 and 12, are reported to have been crushed as they ran down a staircase at Kakamega Primary School after classes.

A guardian claims the students were running away from teachers who were beating them. Some reports suggested the staircase had collapsed.

Some children were reported to have fallen from the third floor of the school building during the crush.

There were distressing scenes when parents collapsing in grief in a local hospital.

Education minister George Magoha confirmed 14 children were killed. (With inputs from Agencies)
