NCP State-3 Assembly members divided over State capital

BHAKTAPUR: State-3 Assembly members are divided over the issue in terms of the announcement of its capital and name.

The members are caught in an argument on the issue after the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) decided the name of State-3 and its capital.

The NCP had some days ago, decided to fix Hetauda as the capital and Bagmati State as the name of Province-3.

Out of 13 districts in State-3, over two-thirds of members from 11 districts have argued that Hetauda was not a proper place for the permanent capital city of State-3.

State Assembly member Sashi Jung Thapa argued that most of the State Assembly members were against Hetauda as the capital city. He said that Kavre would be the best place for the capital.

Likewise, assembly member Bashundhara Humagain said debates were going on within the party to campaign against Kavre as the capital city.

“Had the party not issued the whip, more than two-thirds would vote for Kavre as the capital city,” she argued.

She said that they would vote for Kavre and create a history.

Laxman Lamsal said it was worrying to have separate meetings of factions within the party on the issue while vowing to fight till the last moment to make Kavre the capital city.

Likewise, Chandra Lama said he would register a proposal at the State Assembly meeting demanding Kavre as the capital city warning to cross the floor in the voting.

Meanwhile, another member Chetnath Sanjel said discussions would be held to forge consensus to decide the state’s capital.
