KATHMANDU: The government is mulling to reduce electricity tariff to increase electricity consumption.

Minister for Energy Barshaman Pun said the government was preparing to remove the subsidy of cooking gas cylinder and reduce electricity tariff.

He was of the opinion that the government is formulating the plan to promote the use of electric stoves.

The Energy Ministry has proposed cutting the subsidy on the cooking gas cylinders from the running fiscal year, but the Ministry of Finance said such subsidy can be removed from the next fiscal year.

Of late, the production of electricity has surged significantly but not consumption.
